Toyota is the highest-ranked Non-Premium brand in the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS) - a benchmark of long-term quality during the third year of new-vehicle ownership. Toyota also ranks No. 3 in a tie among all industry brands in vehicle dependability. In addition, the Toyota Tundra earns the award for "Most Dependable Large Pickup" for a seventh consecutive year.
Toyota Dependability over Time
Historically, Toyota has performed well in the Vehicle Dependability Study, ranking among the top 10 nameplates in the industry for the past 16 years. This year, Toyota outperforms the industry average by 21% and the Non-Premium (non-luxury) average by 22%.
Further, Toyota outperforms the industry average in six of eight categories that measure dependability, and the Non-Premium average in seven of eight categories. In total, four Toyota models receive awards in the 2012 VDS for achieving the leading dependability score in their respective segments.
