2025 marks a big year for the Prius, as a number of changes will alter how you find the right Prius for your Bay Area lifestyle. With a new model joining the family and some changes to the naming structure of the latest Prius models at our Concord, CA Toyota dealer, the new 2025 Prius Hybrid family looks a little different than what you’re used to.
The Prius Prime is Now the Prius PHEV
Those used to the Toyota Prius lineup will be familiar with the Prius Prime. Prime was previously the designation Toyota gave to its plug-in hybrid models, but the brand has simplified that name to make it easier for shoppers to discern. Now simply called the Prius PHEV, the new 2025 plug-in Hybrid Prius retains the same great powertrain it’s had since the big makeover for 2023, but with a name that will be more universal.
New Prius Nightshade
If you’ve ever wanted your Toyota Prius to shed its silver cladding and wheels for black, the 2025 Toyota Prius Nightshade Edition is here for you. By replacing the silver or chrome badges, trim, wheels, and more with gloss black you get a more elegant Prius. Plus, 19-inch wheels and a choice of white or black metallic paint gives you the option to go full blackout or stark contrast.
The Same Great Prius You Know and Love
Those changes won’t alter your Toyota Prius driving experience, as what’s underneath these cosmetic and name changes remains intact. You’ll still get up to 57 mpg in the city from the punchy 197-horsepower hybrid powertrain. And the Prius PHEV retains its 220-horsepower split power unit with up to 44 miles of EV-only range for your shorter commutes around Oakland and Walnut Creek.
